Ancient Gold vs. Antique Gold
The other day we talked about ancient gold and the gold we referred to was truly ancient, as in it was thousands of years old. The pre-Hispanic gold items that were recently donated to the country of Mexico have truly outlasted the people and the culture that produced them. They are a lasting legacy and a tribute to the creativity of ancient peoples. Even without all of our technology, they were able to work with and manipulate gold into some rather interesting ways.
However, you should know that ancient gold is not the same as antique or vintage gold. When people talk usually about antique gold jewelry, they are probably not referring to gold that is quite that gold. In fact, antique gold jewelry can often included gold objects that were made when some of us were still young. Vintage or antique gold jewelry included pieces that were created in the 1940s.
Recently there has been an increased interest in vintage gold jewelry. Stars of stage and screen often pull out vintage gowns for award shows and other dressy functions. And sometimes they will accessorize these vintage clothes with antique jewelry. Other stars like to mix things up by pairing an antique gold bracelet or gold necklace with a new dress. Gold jewelry that was made even decades ago can have a different look and feel from contemporary pieces. Our tools, technology and our creative sensibilities change as time passes, so the gold jewelry of yesterday is not like the gold jewelry of today.
While it is great when gold jewelry is kept and still wearable, not all antique pieces of gold jewelry have been preserved well or are even worth preserving. And that is okay. You may have been given some gold jewelry by a family member or friend, but you really do not know what to with it because you cannot wear it or it is not ion good condition. If this is you, you can sell gold to get cash for gold. Old gold jewelry still has value, whether it is used as originally intended or not. The value of your old gold jewelry can be redeemed in different ways, including selling it to a gold buyer. Just because you are not wearing it, does not mean that you cannot reap some benefits from your gold.
